This is the New York State Event for the Ubuntu New York Local Community Team starting at 2:00 PM and finishing at 7:00 PM. SummaryJaunty Throw Down Waterloo, New York 13165 The 9.04 release is shaping up to be the best Ubuntu release ever. The Rochester Loco and Syracuse Loco are coming together for this special event in a combined public event celebrating the release. We are having a public demonstration and explanation of Jaunty Jackalope followed by a pizza party and install fest afterwards. Public AwarenessThe first half of the half will have presentation by the our Loco team members about Ubuntu, 9.04, and open source software. Demo systems will be set up for people to check out the new OS and see some of the diverse application of the operating system.
Computers with Jaunty Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu will be available for hands-on experience. Other derivatives may also be present with enough computers being available. Release PartyThe second half people will break out there computers and get installing. Pizza and soda will be provided for approximately 50 attendees if more show we'll pass a hat to cover the costs. It is recommended to RSVP to rsvp@newyork-ubuntu.com to help gage attendance but not required. There are a number of activities suggested
RecapThe combined launch party and public information session drew roughly 30 people including people from Albany, Binghamton, Ithaca, Rochester, Syracuse and Utica. This is the first statewide loco event in team history. The crowd was a mix of current Linux users and people interested in migrating to Ubuntu from Windows.
